This roundtable discussion will focus on how Mortenson is pioneering new methods of building on the job site using robots from Built Robotics. We will explain how excavators are upgraded with AI Guidance Systems to become fully autonomous robots and show the software that powers them. Participants can see how robotic technology is advancing the future of construction by looking at past projects on wind farms. Mortenson and Built will share how robotics is shaping new careers, job skills, and opportunities for both people within and new to the industry.

Eric Sellman
Vice President and General Manager, Mortenson
Eric is a 25-year veteran of the Heavy Civil construction industry, and in 2011 he started the Civil group at Mortenson. Civil works across the entire U.S. focusing on Heavy Civil infrastructure in various market sectors including renewable energy, site development, and water resources. As the general manager, Eric is passionate about creating and sustaining a people-first culture while implementing business planning & strategy, business development, preconstruction and operations execution. Prior to joining Mortenson, Eric spent several years at a leading regional Heavy Highway contractor serving in a variety of roles from Project Manager to Chief Estimator. Eric graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
Gaurav Kikani
Vice President of Strategy, Operations and Finance, Built Robotics
Gaurav oversees growth, operations, and business development for Built Robotics. Previously, Gaurav launched startup companies at Shumway Capital, an investment firm, and was a consultant at Bain & Company, where he advised companies in the mining and technology sectors. Gaurav graduated with honors in finance and economics at Northwestern University. A native Texan, his interest in heavy equipment originates from growing up surrounded by the oil and gas industry.

Lean Innovation Manager, Mortenson
Derek is the champion for all things technology and innovation for Mortenson Civil. He leads the charge in researching and implementing new technologies and processes ranging from software to fully autonomous robots. Derek’s focus is on improving our team members experience and evolving our processes for the construction project of the future. Derek graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in Entrepreneurship.
