Our virtual field trip series will enable students to learn directly from industry professionals who will demonstrate their skills, share their stories, and inspire students to pursue a career in the design and construction industry!

ACE Ventures is a supplemental program in addition to your local ACE affiliate programming.

Managing large construction projects can be a complex process. We will look at how the Phoenix Raceway completed a major renovation with Okland Construction and Procore’s construction management software.

Phoenix Raceway President, Julie Giese, and Business Development Director for the West, Mark Bailey, will describe the history of the Phoenix Raceway, The Championship Weekend, and how they use the facility throughout the year. They will also describe the steps that went into the renovation project and provide a virtual tour of the facility.

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) continues to change the way we deliver buildings and communicate among various stakeholders. We will look at today’s current technologies related to VDC and how it improves project communication. Topics will include preconstruction, logistics planning, BIM Execution Plans, clash detection, laser scanning, augmented reality and prefabrication. We will also take an in depth look at some of the latest cloud communication platforms including Autodesk BIM 360© and Touch Plan©.

We will highlight several projects including the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Atrium Health Pineville Bed Tower. Students should have a strong understanding on how technology is improving the delivery process of design and construction.

Gilbane Building Company has a long-established national relationship with the ACE Mentor Program. Since 2000, Gilbane has mentored over 400 students from 18 states and 43 cities across the U.S. Gilbane has 112 active mentors, each mentor spends between 30 and 75 hours per year working with ACE students. To date, Gilbane has donated over $1.5 million to the ACE Mentor program.

Gilbane’s Chairman and CEO, Thomas F. Gilbane, Jr., conducts a yearly review of all business units’ participation in ACE and each summer grants Gilbane’s annual ACE Mentoring Award to one or more employees during a companywide town hall meeting. Winners receive $1,000 to donate to their local ACE chapter.

PCL Construction is involved with multiple student housing projects across the UCLA Campus. In this ACEVenture we will focus on the $303M Southwest Student Housing Project. The project consists of three residential cast-in-place concrete buildings, two at eight (8) stories and one nine (9) story building. The project will provide 358 apartment-style units consisting of 2,281 undergraduate beds. This ACEVenture will show the high level of coordination and daily challenges that goes into getting a project like this from start to where it is today at 50% complete. We will take detailed looks into the technology we use, placing a concrete deck, and removing a Tower Crane!

The increase in population density in urban locations and land scarcity has caused a significant escalation in the rise of vertical school projects. Vertical schools are characterized as multi-level buildings blending teaching pedagogies and age cohorts across science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) disciplines.

A notable increase in significant high-rise school projects has occurred within the past few years in Australia. Globally, vertical schools are a relatively new concept.
