UTILIZING TECHNOLOGY TO DRIVE CONSTRUCTION

Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) continues to change the way we deliver buildings and communicate among various stakeholders.  We will look at today’s current technologies related to VDC and how it improves project communication.  Topics will include preconstruction, logistics planning, BIM Execution Plans, clash detection, laser scanning,  augmented reality and prefabrication. We will also take an in depth look at some of the latest cloud communication platforms including Autodesk BIM 360© and Touch Plan©.

We will highlight several projects including the Charlotte Douglas International Airport and the Atrium Health Pineville Bed Tower.  Students should have a strong understanding on how technology is improving the delivery process of design and construction.

PRESENTERS:

Walter Jenkins

VDC Coordinator

Walter’s responsibilities include creating Virtual Construction (Building Information Modeling) for preconstruction and construction projects. Walter’s models create digital representations of all stages of the building design. These models help all project team members visualize the construction process, assist with quantity takeoffs, optimize execution in the field through clash detection, and ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project. He will be in constant communication with the architecture and engineering team, as well as the preconstruction project manager

Brian King, AIA, LEED AP BD+C

Integrated Construction Manager / Building Information Modeling

Brian leads the Virtual Construction department and his responsibilities include managing all aspects of Virtual Construction processes from preconstruction through project completion. Brian develops models that are digital representations of the architecture and engineering building design. These models help all team members visualize the construction process, assist with quantity takeoffs, optimize execution through clash elimination, and ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project. He will be in constant communication with the design team, preconstruction project manager, and field operations team to ensure that the design intent is met and exceeded.

Virginia Sutton, PE, LEED AP BD+C

VDC Manager

Virginia’s responsibilities include creating Virtual Construction (Building Information Modeling) for preconstruction and construction projects. Virginia’s models create digital representations of all stages of the building design. These models help all project team members visualize the construction process, assist with quantity takeoffs, optimize execution in the field through clash detection, and ensure a comprehensive understanding of the project. She will be in constant communication with the architecture and engineering team, as well as the preconstruction project manager.
